abundant health, wealth, and happiness

Feeling intensely about something makes it hard to start talking about.

You can say one word, and my mind will be flooded with a ton of information regarding that one thing. Sometimes it also includes thoughts that seem irrelevant to most, but because it was coded a certain way/ in a certain moment of my life, it correlates and therefor gets stuck in that mental file.

Now here I am, saying some real “foot in the door” kind of stuff when I’m not trying to talk about anything seriously emotional at all.

I wanna talk about COCONUTS.

Be sure to never actually stand under a coconut tree for too long. They will fall and can cause serious injury or death.

In Costa Rica, you can find posted beach signs warning of the dangers of falling coconuts. Leave it to the local professionals to harvest them and then show your support of the community by grabbing a couple to sip and enjoy.

In the US, you can go to your typical big box grocery store and find the brown husked coconut. But if you are lucky to know of a place that sells them, you can get young coconuts. They are also know as baby Thai coconuts.

It’s my absolute favorite way of consumption (as opposed to it’s older counterpart, with the brown husk) and the entire experience is just SO satisfying.

Now the meat inside of a brown coconut is hard and fibrous. Still delicious and ideal for snacking right off the shell. Speaking of, when I was younger — I would drain the water out by poking a hole with a screwdriver, then I would hurl it at the side of my brick house.

Y’know, just another innocent way of coping with adolescent angst and aggression.

*Disclaimer* Please look up various methods of this upcoming process because there are certain tools/other techniques you could be using. I like working with my bare hands, so I only use a big, weighted knife. Find what works for you!!

For myself though..

First, I hack open the top of the white rind, cautious to not chop my hand off.

Secondly, drinking and bottling my very own sweet coconut water for the next few days.

Then alas, scooping out the soft, jelly-like flesh as my reward for a job well done. It can get messy, but that just makes it more fun.

Impromptu prep session!

By now, most of us know that coconut oil is jam packed with vitamins, minerals and omega 3’s. It can be used for skin care, health and wellness, food, etc. The list of possibilities is extensive.

What do you like to do with coconuts? Use them as a bowl for fruit salad, a glass for rum drinks or an uncomfortable bra? I’d love to hear about it!
